Shippenville Nursing and Rehab was the top provider in Clarion County during the first quarter of 2026, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data shows.

The facility reported 120 available beds, surpassing the county’s average by 18 as of the first quarter of 2026. It supported an average population of 98.6 residents during that time.

CMS gave Shippenville Nursing and Rehab an overall 3 out of 5 rating, which matched the statewide average rating for Pennsylvania nursing homes.

Clarion Nursing and Rehab was ranked as the county’s second largest nursing facility that quarter, offering 83 beds.

Shippenville Nursing and Rehab recorded no fines or penalties during the first quarter of 2026.

Altogether, there were two for-profit nursing home operators in Clarion County, Pennsylvania.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates continue to show rapid growth in the nation’s older adult population, even as younger groups decline. From 2020 to 2024, the population 65 and older grew by 13%, compared with a 1.7% drop in residents under 18. The share of older Americans has surged over the last century, climbing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study estimated that about half of the 65-and-older age group—around 28 million people—are likely to need long-term services and supports, and more than a third may require nursing home care at some stage.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
