Clarion University issued the following announcement.
CU Moves is Dr. Dale’s movement challenge for Clarion University students, faculty and staff. The goal is to encourage the Clarion University community to get out and get active. The challenge is simple: participants will download the Runkeeper app (compatible with IOS and Android), create a login and chart their daily activity. The app has GPS capability and tracks distance, average pace and various other aspects of a workout. The app also allows users to choose specific workouts in order to accurately track progress. Workouts include, cycling, walking, running, skating – any workout is welcome. Runkeeper also provides a social aspect; users are able to add friends and have access to what other users in the Clarion University network are doing.
Beginning Sept. 7, Clarion students, faculty and staff will submit their weekly totals by email to campus recreation coordinator Ewing Moussa at emoussa@clarion.edu or by adding Ewing Moussa as a "friend" on the app. Results will be submitted every Monday before noon, and leaderboards will be posted in the recreation center and on Instagram at @clarionrec. Weekly leaders in varying categories such as most distance traveled, longest activity streak, most improvement and others will be rewarded. Following the conclusion of the challenge at the end of the spring 2021 semester, $1,000 worth of prizes will be awarded for consistency and progress.
In addition to individual participants, we hope to have multiple student organizations and athletic teams be actively engaged in the program. Those groups have the ability to be leaders in bringing us all together. We will work closely with student-athletes and coaches to ensure that the movement challenge does not impede any team-related activities. Student-athletes will track all movement that is not directly associated with team activities.
We want to encourage everyone to not only stay active, but also explore the beautiful and wondrous outdoors of Clarion and Venango counties. We will feature and highlight activities in which students, faculty and staff can participate. We plan to organize bike rides on the Route 66 trail, hikes on the Clarion loop, socially distanced outdoor yoga, and other activities. Our goal is not only to strengthen our sense of community, but also to come together while remaining safe, healthy and physically distant.
