The Power of PennWest brings opportunities for students

In recognizing Pennsylvania’s most powerful educators in its 2022 Higher Education Power 100, the website for City and State, Pennsylvania, featured PennWest founding president Dr. Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson. The article praised the university integrations that have created PennWest University and stated, “The obstacles that come with these major shifts wouldn’t be manageable without influential leaders and innovators overseeing these institutions.

PennWest combines the resources and expertise of three top Pennsylvania universities – California, Clarion and Edinboro – to create a new way to educate. This new approach means that opportunities for new and diverse experiences are no longer confined to a single campus; now, they’re open to imagination.

For the first time ever in Pennsylvania, students have access to all of the resources, programs, professors, real-world work opportunities, traditions and offerings from three of Pennsylvania’s top universities in one place. It’s a modern approach to meet the needs of today’s students and tomorrow’s world, all built on hundreds of years of educational excellence at California, Clarion and Edinboro.

The future of higher learning means, in part, making sure our students have options in how they want to learn. Students are no longer defined by the professors or programs on one campus; instead, they have access to the entire network of faculty. PennWest has several types of class delivery:

·      Face-to-Face: Students learn directly from their professor in the classroom, on their campus.

·      Online: Content is loaded into our learning management system, then students move through the class at their own pace. Also called asynchronous learning, students learn on their schedule, wherever they are.

·      Multimodal: These classes are delivered in the classroom from a selected campus; however, students still have the opportunity to Zoom in to take the class from another campus. Also called synchronous learning, students who Zoom in to the class need to follow the class schedule.

By letting students combine programs and majors from across the three PennWest campuses, new opportunities for dynamic, diverse experiences result. That’s exactly what employers are looking for – people with diverse backgrounds and skill sets who can make their organizations stronger. With the power of PennWest, students can make themselves into the ideal candidate for the job they want in a career they love. The full array of programs is shown at PennWest.edu/academics.
