James Continues Advocacy for the Arts in Pennsylvania
HARRISBURG – Rep. Lee James (R-Venango/Crawford), the House Republican co-chair of the Arts and Culture Caucus, welcomed opera singer Dr. Sam DePalma to the state Capitol on Tuesday.
DePalma is widely known as a gifted Bass-Baritone, a voice often sought in opera for roles of kings and conquerors. He has performed in Austria, Brazil, Mexico, Poland, Yugoslavia, Italy, Sicily, and Spain. He made his American debut in 1986 as Ferrando in Il Trovatore with the Nevada Opera Association in Reno. Since then, he has sung various roles across the United States and now resides in Oil City, located in the 64th District.
“An accomplished singer, Dr. DePalma’s talented gift was on full display for all to hear,” said James. “His resounding voice, coupled with his poise, struck the perfect chord that was easy to listen to. By continuing to invest in this field, we will see more artists like him blossom into something great for Pennsylvania and the country. I am proud of his journey and look forward to working with the next wave of artists.”
Last year, the arts and culture sector of the Commonwealth – which employs roughly 159,000 people – brought in approximately $25 billion in revenues.
