Rep. Kathy L. Rapp has announced a $140,000 grant from the Watershed Restoration Protection Program for a stabilization project on Tionesta Creek in Kingsley Township, Forest County. This initiative is part of the Marcellus Legacy Fund programs under Act 13 of 2012, aimed at restoring or maintaining streams impaired by nonpoint source polluted runoff.
The project will focus on restoring approximately 1,800 feet of Tionesta Creek's streambank by re-establishing vegetation and improving drainage to Creek Road. These efforts are necessary due to ice and flood waters causing vegetation loss and slope instability, which have led to erosion issues.
Rapp stated, "I’m pleased to support this project, which will reduce sediment loads entering the Tionesta Creek." She emphasized the creek's importance to the local economy through tourism at Cook Forest State Park and its significance for water quality for both residents and visitors.
