Rep. Kathy L. Rapp (R-Warren/Crawford/Forest) has announced that a total of $566,225 in state grants will be distributed to fire and ambulance companies in the 65th Legislative District. The funds aim to enhance public safety within the district.
"Most of our EMTs, paramedics, and firefighters in the 65th district are responsible for large coverage areas," Rapp stated. "That means their equipment needs to be primed and ready to go, just like our first responders themselves. These grants will allow our fire departments and ambulance companies to maintain their high standards of safety and preparedness."
The grant funding originates from a program created by the Legislature. It is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The grants are funded by proceeds from slot machine gaming, not from General Fund tax revenue.
Eligible projects for funding include construction or renovation of facilities, equipment purchase or repair, training, or debt reduction. All compliant applications meeting OSFC requirements receive funding, and grant agreements must be filed with OFSC to process the awards.
In Crawford County, allocations include the Bloomfield Township Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, each receiving funds, among other departments. Forest County saw grants awarded to entities such as the Marienville Volunteer Fire Company Inc. and Tionesta Ambulance Service Inc. Within Warren County, the City of Warren Fire Department and various volunteer fire departments also received allocations.
