State Senator Scott Hutchinson has voiced concerns over Governor Josh Shapiro's recent state budget proposal. In a statement following the governor's address, Hutchinson criticized the proposed spending plan as overly ambitious and lacking sustainable revenue sources.

"Today the Governor put an extremely aggressive spending plan on the table without the continuing revenue to pay for it," Hutchinson stated. The governor's proposal includes $51.5 billion in spending, marking a 7.5% increase from the previous year. However, projected ongoing revenue is estimated at only $47.5 billion.

The senator highlighted that some of this projected revenue relies on potential new sources, such as legalizing marijuana and taxing games of skill—measures that have been discussed but not yet passed into law. Hutchinson expressed concern over the reliance on one-time revenue sources like depleting the Rainy Day fund, warning that it could lead to discussions about tax increases next year.

"I think it’s time to be more realistic about our finances and live within our means," he urged, emphasizing a need for financial stability and economic growth.
