FOIA Request to Venango County Election Department Regarding Information on Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Northwest PA News have submitted a request for records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law, 65 §66.1 et seq. The request was sent with the aim of obtaining a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election.
The specific details requested include each candidate's first, middle, and last name; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation. In addition to these details, we have also asked for all contact information available for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization, our role involves gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that as media professionals engaged in disseminating information, we are eligible for a fee waiver.
