FOIA Request to Elk County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
We at Northwest PA News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have submitted a request for records under the Pennsylvania Right to Know Law. Our request is specifically aimed at obtaining information about all candidates running in the upcoming election.
Our request includes detailed candidate information such as their first, middle and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office and party affiliation. In addition to this, we have also requested contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number and email address.
As a media organization dedicated to gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.
This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that the citizens of Pennsylvania are well-informed about their electoral choices. We believe that having access to this information will enable voters to make informed decisions in the upcoming elections.
