U.S. Representatives Glenn "GT" Thompson and Sanford D. Bishop, Jr., who co-chair the bipartisan Congressional Scouting Caucus, have introduced a resolution to celebrate the 115th anniversary of Scouting America. The organization was incorporated in Chicago on February 8, 1910, and has since played a significant role in the lives of millions of young men and women.
Rep. Thompson emphasized the impact of Scouting on character building and skill development, stating, "Scouting helps young men and women build character and confidence, while attaining skills that will help them succeed in all aspects of life." He shared his personal connection with Scouting over more than five decades as a Scout, Eagle Scout, Scoutmaster, and Distinguished Eagle.
Rep. Bishop echoed these sentiments by highlighting how Scouting has influenced his own life: “I am proud to introduce this bipartisan resolution celebrating the 115th Anniversary of Scouting America with my fellow Eagle Scout and colleague in Congress, ‘GT’ Thompson.” He praised the organization's role in instilling principles such as moral character and leadership.
Roger Krone, President and CEO of Scouting America, expressed gratitude for the resolution: "Scouting America would like to extend their sincere gratitude for this thoughtful resolution." He acknowledged the support from the Scouting Caucus as a testament to their commitment to fostering ethical choices among youth through the values taught by Scouting.
