Speaker Bio:
A southwestern Pennsylvania native, Shona Eakin was born in Washington, PA. After continuing her education at Edinboro University of PA, Shona began her career at Transitional Paths to Independent Living in Washington, PA, where she spent years working with a mission of growing the independent living movement for all individuals with disabilities. Following her tenure at TRPIL, Shona moved to northwest Pennsylvania, where she became the CEO of Voices for Independence, a Center for Independent Living in Erie, PA. Through her leadership, Voices for Independence grew from a small staff of 12 to over 1,400.
Voices for Independence has now served individuals with disabilities in Pennsylvania for over 25 years, providing in-home care through the personalassistance services program, and offering services through home modifications, independent living skills training & peer support, and nursing home transition. In the past five years alone, Voices for Independence has transitioned nearly 600 individuals out of nursing facilities and back into the community where they can live more independently. In addition to leading Voices for Independence, Shona is also the CEO of Transitional Paths to Independent Living, where she began her career. Under Shona’s leadership, Voices for Independence currently provides quality services to more individuals with disabilities than ever before, serving 27 counties in Western PA.
