Reps. Glenn "GT" Thompson, David Scott, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, and Henry Cuellar have introduced a resolution to designate October 7 through October 12 as "National 4-H Week." These representatives serve as co-chairs of the bipartisan 4-H Caucus.
The resolution highlights the significance of 4-H, a youth development program affiliated with the Cooperative Extension System of Land-Grant Universities. It is recognized as the largest youth development organization in the United States, engaging nearly six million young individuals nationwide. The program offers hands-on projects focusing on health, science, agriculture, and civic engagement.
The resolution acknowledges the crucial role of 4-H in fostering youth development and education. It calls upon citizens to appreciate the substantial impact that 4-H and its members have within their communities.
Rep. Thompson stated, "4-H inspires the next generation of agricultural leaders and gives students an invaluable hands-on experience in the field." He emphasized that it goes beyond farming by teaching science, technology, and business aspects related to agriculture.
Rep. Scott noted that for over 120 years, "4–H has provided support, mentorship, education, and training to America’s next generation of agricultural leaders." He expressed pride in supporting National 4-H Week to recognize its contributions to youth development.
Rep. Rodgers shared her personal experience with 4-H: “As a young girl growing up in rural Eastern Washington, 4-H taught me some of the most important life and leadership skills that I lean on today.” She supports celebrating National 4-H Week to inspire future leaders.
Rep. Cuellar highlighted how "4-H provides extraordinary opportunities for kids across the United States to develop critical life skills." He committed to continuing support for youth programs in rural American communities.
