U.S. Representatives Glenn "GT" Thompson and Suzanne Bonamici, alongside Senators Tammy Baldwin, Ted Budd, Tim Kaine, and Todd Young, have introduced a resolution to recognize National Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month. This month-long observance in February highlights the importance of CTE in preparing students for various careers.
Rep. Thompson emphasized the value of CTE as a pathway to well-paying jobs that are in demand. He stated that CTE equips students with necessary skills for competitiveness in today's workforce. Rep. Bonamici added that CTE benefits all students by keeping them engaged and increasing high school graduation rates.
Senator Baldwin expressed her commitment to supporting CTE students to ensure they are ready for high-skilled jobs that will drive future economic growth. Senator Budd highlighted the role of CTE in creating educational paths leading to good-paying jobs.
Senator Kaine shared his personal experience with technical education and its impact on providing steady careers and economic stability. He expressed pride in introducing the resolution to designate February 2025 as Career and Technical Education Month.
Senator Young noted that CTE provides Hoosier students with essential skills for meaningful careers, emphasizing the importance of workforce training for future job preparedness.
CTE programs prepare students for careers across various fields such as healthcare, agriculture, information technology, manufacturing, and skilled trades. With over 8 million job openings nationwide in industries facing skilled labor shortages, more than 12 million students are currently enrolled in CTE programs across different educational institutions.
Kate Kreamer from Advance CTE expressed support for the resolution, noting its reflection of a national commitment to quality skills and work-based learning. LeAnn Curry from ACTE endorsed the resolution as well, highlighting its role in connecting learners to high-wage careers while advocating continued investment in these programs.
