Altoona Area School District issued the following announcement.
Two Altoona Area School District teachers received Educator CARE Awards during the AASD Staff Opening Day Session on August 28, 2020.
These awards are presented annually to an elementary teacher and a secondary teacher who have demonstrated Commitment, Achievement, Responsibility and Excellence in the classroom. Heidi Soldner, an elementary teacher, received the elementary award. Ms. Soldner is a graduate of Penn State University and holds a Masters from St. Francis University. Ms. Soldner has worked at the Altoona Area School District for the past 20 years.
The secondary education award recipient was James Krug. Mr. Krug earned an undergraduate degree from Juniata College and a Masters from St. Francis University. Mr. Krug serves as an Astronomy teacher at the Altoona Area High School as well as the Director of the Neil Armstrong Planetarium.
Mr. Krug has been teaching at AASD for the past 17 years. Each of the award winners received a plaque in recognition of their excellence in teaching along with a wristwatch from Kranich's Jewelers in Altoona. The Educator CARE Awards have been presented on an annual basis since 1985 by the School District and the Altoona Area Education Association.
